If paedophilia is innate, should we isolate paedophiles before they commit a crime?…

Date: January 08, 2016

01) If paedophilia is innate, should we isolate paedophiles before they commit a crime?

02) Connected Essay: Natural-born paedophiles

“Some paedophiles might be hard-wired to commit their abusive acts. Should that alter their crime in the eyes of the law?”

The question posed…

“If paedophilia is innate, should we isolate paedophiles before they commit a crime?”

Short answer…No!…Don’t be ridiculous!

Slightly longer answer…How exactly are you going to make distinctions and draw lines, when you are supposing who is allegedly a public danger? Age of consent is commonly a matter of dispute…and highly subjective.

This is nothing but a witch hunt.

However…If the day ever comes, where society supposes it has a right to restrict me to limited quarters…I expect [nay…I demand], that I be treated to the lavish life of a king…No expense should ever be spared on my comfort, my needs, nor my entertainment…I should eat only the finest of foods…lots of lobster, crab legs, shrimp, scallops and calamari…with the best fruits and vegetables…and awesome salads…lots of them…prepared by the finest chefs…And I expect a limitless allowance, to spend on Amazon.com…and I want my own airplane…I’ll let you know any future addendums, if the need arises.

Short of this [and likely even then]…you will never, ever, ever, ever, under any circumstances imaginable, shackle me or place me in a cage. I will die fighting, if need be.

You want to treat me like a rabid animal?…

…Then I can take up that role, in facing down any assailant…It’s only fair.

When it comes to survival, in the face of people trying to take it away…there is no gentlemen’s rule to abide by.

Comment on the linked essay:

I’ve only browsed it…It starts off with a pedophile horror story…but looks to wander through different social questions. It may be worth a read.

Speaking to this dehumanizing question:

…And yes, fine…the original term chosen was “isolate”…not imprison…but I don’t see much of a difference, in the context of this question…Frankly…it is ostracizing from society…which is unconscionable.

Truth be told…given the kinds of things “normal” people say too us, about us, wish upon us, threaten against us [much of which is lies, or indefensibly sick and demented violence]…we are at least a thousand times more justified to be paranoid of them, than they are to be paranoid about us.

Daniel Dennett on Tools To Transform Our Thinking…

01) Daniel Dennett on Tools To Transform Our Thinking

“Filmed at the Royal Geographical Society on 22nd May 2013.

Daniel Dennett is one of the world’s most original and provocative thinkers. A philosopher and cognitive scientist, he is known as one of the ‘Four Horseman of New Atheism’ along with Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris and the late Christopher Hitchens.

On May 22nd he came to Intelligence Squared to share the insights he has acquired over his 40-year career into the nature of how we think, decide and act. Dennett revealed his favourite thinking tools, or ‘intuition pumps’, that he and others have developed for addressing life’s most fundamental questions. As well as taking a fresh look at familiar moves — Occam’s Razor, reductio ad absurdum — he discussed new cognitive solutions designed for the most treacherous subject matter: evolution, meaning, consciousness and free will.

By acquiring these tools and learning to use them wisely, we can all aspire to better understand the world around us and our place in it.”

ISOC Islamist Thugs Attempt To Intimidate Maryam Namazie…

01) ISOC Islamist Thugs Attempt To Intimidate Maryam Namazie

“Members of Goldsmiths Islamic Society (ISOC) attempt to intimidate and disrupt during a talk by Maryam Namazie at Goldsmiths University, UK.”

In total fairness to the audience, a few Muslims do react to what is going on with balanced comments. A few are clearly outraged at the behavior, which was intended to shut down this lecture. However…it looks like a considerable fraction of the audience, was people infiltrating the event to disrupt it.

Where was campus security in all of this? The men up in front should have been arrested, and taken away. Bad, bad, bad behavior. Civilized humans don’t behave like that.

Major UK study finds using cannabis does not reduce IQ among teenagers…

Date: January 08, 2015

01) Major UK study finds using cannabis does not reduce IQ among teenagers

“A large study conducted in the United Kingdom failed to find evidence of a robust link between cannabis use and lowered intelligence among teenagers.

The study, published online January 6 in the Journal of Psychopharmacology, found a statistical association between cannabis use and decreased intellectual performance. However, this association vanished when the researchers took other variables into account. “The notion that cannabis use itself is causally related to lower IQ and poorer educational performance was not supported in this large teenage sample,” wrote Claire Mokrysz of the University College London and her colleagues.

The findings are based on 2,235 teenagers who participated in the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC), a long-term study following children born in the Bristol area in 1991 and 1992. The children had their IQ tested at the age of 8, and again at the age of 15. Nearly a quarter of the participants reported having tried cannabis at least once, and 3.3 percent had used the drug at least 50 times.”

“After adjustment to account for these group differences, cannabis use by the age of 15 did not predict either lower teenage IQ scores or poorer educational performance,” the researchers explained.
