Julie Dorf on Larry King Live — 1993…

01) Julie Dorf on Larry King Live — 1993

“In this 1993 episode of Larry King Live — Larry talks with Julie Dorf, executive director of the International Gay & Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC) and Action Secretary of the International Lesbian and Gay Association (ILGA) about objections to ILGA’s inclusion of NAMBLA as a member organization as ILGA had just secured ECO-SOC consultative status at the UN. As well as Bill Andriette of the North American Man-Boy Love Association (NAMBLA) and Peter LaBarbera of the conservative newsletter The LAMBDA Report.

…Note there is a short video glitch at about 14:30.”

Thank you to Antipedophobe Aktion for this find.

This is a historical documentation…And for all those doubting Thomas out there…Yes, there were still gay and lesbian leaders, who were fighting on behalf of BoyLovers [and children and teens] and our rights to be a part of the movement…Even in the eye of the storm.

I’ve been sloppy here, and rushed this out…If I wanted to make a commentary on this, I should have waited…and done so at a later time.

Admittedly…what Julie Dorf argues for here, is quite slim pickings…”We wont fight for your causes, but you can join in and fight for ours, plus common ground you share with us.”…But do note, she was not arguing to throw NAMBLA out…And there were other leaders, who strongly protested what happened to NAMBLA [and Project Truth, and at least one other organization].

Even just the tone of the discussion here…It’s amazing to see how composed it all was…It was respectful.

I agree with Antipedophobe Aktion, that the other woman talking to reporters, about half way through the video, is quite inspirational. That’s someone who knows how to fight. Some members of NAMBLA were strong women.

Just one last thing I’d like to say…

…If the ILGA considered itself to be a sort of “united nations” of the sexual minorities…that says some pretty ugly things about them, given that they ultimately ostracized several groups over this controversy. To abandon groups, when you are their public voice…and you’re supposed to be there, to defend their human rights…ugly and heinous.
