Tom Petty…

Date: October 02, 2017

This is a hard and shocking death…But, I’m glad we finally have solid verification on Tom’s status.

Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers put out a lot of music I loved…but, they also kind of faded into the background…so, I didn’t even know about the 2014 album they put out…I knew about the two Mudcrutch ones, though…I have them on a wish list.

How do you summarize a death like this?…He died to young…He was still putting out good albums…

This world is poorer, for the loss of Tom Petty.

In my opinion, the following represents Tom at his absolute best.

Hillary Clinton’s Freudian Slip on Money in Politics is VERY Telling …

01) Hillary Clinton’s Freudian Slip on Money in Politics is VERY Telling

“In an interview with Joy Ann Reid on MSNBC, Hillary Clinton was asked to share her thoughts on what the driving force is behind the Republican Party’s increasingly extremist ideological views and behavior. She instinctively noted their “partisan donors” were the main reason, but then quickly seemed to walk back that statement. She was likely mindful that such an assertion would undermine the argument she’s made about the money she took from Wall Street supposedly not influencing her decisions, and likely didn’t want to look like a hypocrite. Nonetheless, this freudian slip was VERY telling.”

Victim Mentality and Resentment of the Left – Roger Scruton…

Date: October 02, 2017

01) Victim Mentality and Resentment of the Left – Roger Scruton

“Sir Roger Vernon Scruton is an English philosopher and writer who specialises in aesthetics and political philosophy, particularly in the furtherance of traditionalist conservative views.
In recent years he teached courses in Buckingham University, Oxford University and University of St. Andrews.”

I do think it would be wrong, to fail acknowledging that people on “the right” also use this tactic…[“Look at all these victims!”…”Look at all those abusers!”…”It’s their fault!”].

…I think, by virtue of how “the left” typically organizes and mobilizes…it’s more prone to be seen as synonymous with this behavior.

“The left” isn’t historically where all the money and established power are at…which leaves it up to smaller, weaker, isolated groups to unite with each other…and use their personalized tactics to fight for what they need or want.

“The right”, on the other hand, has been tapping into big business and conservative religion, for many decades…This juggernaut of a base, provides for a wider range of avenues.

…But that hardly means “the right” fails to use any of the tactics available, wherever they become useful to them.

Prelude to Axanar…

01) Prelude to Axanar

“Axanar is the independent production that proves a feature-quality Star Trek film can be made on a very modest budget — approximately $80,000 in the case of the short film that you just watched — and outside of the studio system. Filmed in Hollywood, this effort, our short proof-of-concept film to show what our professional and highly talented cast and crew can deliver, was made possible by generous donations to our first Kickstarter effort by fans like you. Prelude to Axanar is told in a retrospective documentary fashion, but the follow-up feature-length film that is currently in production will unfold as a traditional film that is told chronologically would. You are fans of Star Trek. We are fans of Star Trek. Together we can make amazing things happen!

This 21-minute short film, Prelude to Axanar, premiered Saturday, July 26th, 2014, at San Diego Comic Con, and features Richard Hatch, Tony Todd, Kate Vernon, JG Hertzler and Gary Graham — Gary reprises his role of Soval from “Enterprise.” The makeup and hair was designed by Academy Award winner Kevin Haney and Star Trek veteran Brad Look of Makeup Effects Lab in Hollywood. Top that off with the amazing visual effects of Tobias Richter of The Light Works, and sound by Academy Award winner Frank Serafine, and the result is Prelude to Axanar: something unlike anything you have ever seen before. We have our loyal donors to thank for this and we couldn’t be more grateful!”

The Axanar Fiasco:

“Prelude to Axanar” represents what so many Star Trek fans are starving for…a return to original form, for the Star Trek universe.

I’ve probably already said this previously…but I’ve been thinking for a long time…I would really love to be able to go to the theater, and see a modern, classic style Star Trek movie…But they refuse to make them, anymore.

I’d like to see more classic style movies, based around the original Enterprise crew…or some prequel movies…

I understand…if we are measuring optimism, based upon The Next Generation movies…one might think the interest isn’t there…But that’s not true…

The Next Generation movies were unimaginative, non-evolved, extended versions of episodes from the television series, shown on large movie screens…They were largely boring, because they didn’t bring much new, or compelling, to the table…We just saw the same old characters, doing the same old things [more less]. You’d expect these as “made for television” movies…And their essentially soft, PG style, helped to make the series lack luster.

Admittedly…I’ve not seen every single one of them, yet…But I do understand what drove those movies into the ground…They weren’t what people go to the theater to see a Star Trek movie for.

With the modern reboot floundering, maybe they’ll actually start looking at what used to make the series successful?

I loved the first, of the rebooted universe…great movie…I thought the second one was pretty good…I’ve yet to see the third [though, I eventually expect to]…But the elephant in the room, is that those are not Star Trek…They’re a strangely seductive bastardization of Star Trek, lacking what makes Star Trek so great and unique…They cant stand on their own, long term…because it’s not what Star Trek fans are wanting…

I think the first one was such a smashing success, largely because the neglected Star Trek fan base was so starving, for anything that might bring back what they so badly miss…

…And when the reboot didn’t…the movies quickly fell off the edge of a cliff, failing to establish and maintain a fan base.

It’s a shame too…because the reboot universe movies are not bad movies [from what I’ve seen]…But what Star Trek fan actually wants these to replace classic Star Trek?

I’ll bet something like Axanar would do amazing, if the executives would contract with the independent producers, maybe even provide them funds…and put the end product in theaters…

Classic Star Trek is so well known and loved, they wouldn’t even likely need to much of an advertisement campaign…It would be like a new “Lord of the Rings” or “Harry Potter” movie announcement…Word of mouth would alert people…The fans would just flock to it, in masses.

So long as they actually delivered a good movie…I think they’d recapture the formula, that made Star Trek such a success.
