US Prison Chief’s Mind Blown By Norway’s Treatment Of Inmates…

01) US Prison Chief’s Mind Blown By Norway’s Treatment Of Inmates

“Halden is situated in a remote forest of birch, pine, and spruce with an understory of blueberry shrubs. The prison is surrounded by a single wall. It has no barbed wire, guard towers, or electric fences. Prisoners stay in private rooms with en suite bathrooms and can cook for themselves in kitchens equipped with stainless-steel flatware and porcelain dishes. Guards and inmates mingle freely, eating and playing games and sports together. Violence is rare and assaults on guards are unheard of. Solitary confinement is almost never used.

By this point, Bertsch had been in charge of North Dakota’s Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, which includes four adult prisons and one juvenile facility, for more than a decade, and Jackson had spent seven years as director of correctional practices. They’d left Bismarck feeling pretty good about their system, which prided itself on its humane practices and commitment to rehabilitation. But now, sitting in the glassed-in bar of the Radisson hotel with its view of the Oslo fjord, Bertsch began to cry. We’re hurting people, she said.

The inhumanity demonstrated by the US prison system including civil commitment centres is simply an extension of the inhumanity demonstrated by the US globally when it decides to war-monger in foreign countries and the resulting massacres.

No one from the US to my knowledge has been indicted for war crimes at any time, and certainly not for the atrocities perpetrated and abetted in Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, former Yugoslavia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Panama, Chile, Cyprus and East Timor.

      I agree…

It seemed like George W. Bush was possibly going to be charged…by some type of world organization…but, no…

The U.S. prison system needs to be overhauled.

Very true. The ‘allies’ learned so much from the Nazis and simply perfected it. People don’t realise that ‘World War 2’ as it is called was simply a colonial war, a fight for global control.

The media is so pervasive and controlling that people believe what they are told. It is a crazy situation. We are distracted from the realities of what is actually happening in the real world by the nonsense that is propagated in the newspapers and more so in the mass unregulated sprawl of social media.

The politicians and those ‘in power’ have never had it so good.
