01) Experts, Police, and Vigilantes Face Off Over Pedophiles on Twitter

“whenever a new measure to censor the Internet is proposed, it will be justified as being targeted at the online activities of either terrorists, or pedophiles. This justification is used so often, because it’s so effective. Nobody wants to be heard speaking up for the rights of either of these hated and feared groups.

Indeed, in order to stave off the threat of broader censorship, free speech activists are sometimes first in line to argue for the censorship of extremist material. It says a lot that the new Chair of the Internet Watch Foundation, which facilitates ISP-level blocking of child abuse imagery online, is the former head of free speech group Article 19.

So it was that Twitter’s suspension of the accounts of non-offending pedophiles last month flew under the radar for most Internet activists and free speech advocates. Although non-offending pedophiles strongly oppose child abuse imagery and adult-child sex, activists were no more inclined to defend them against Twitter’s actions than they were to defend the Nazis and alt-right hate groups whose accounts Twitter also purged.

But there’s one group that does stand against Twitter’s suspension of the accounts of these prominent online pedophiles —and it’s not who you might expect. It’s child protection workers, who together with more than twenty international clinical and forensic psychologists, sexologists, sociologists and other experts, this week sent an open letter to Twitter stating:

In our professional opinions, terminating the accounts of non-offending, anti-contact MAPs [Minor-Attracted Persons] is likely to result in the opposite effect of that which Twitter may expect or intend. Rather than reducing the incidence of child sexual abuse, if anything it increases the risk that some pedophiles will be unable to obtain the peer or professional support that they may need in order to avoid offending behaviour. It is also likely to increase the stigma and isolation associated with pedophilia and thereby increase the likelihood of some MAPs acting on their sexual feelings.”

  1. Not in Twitter

Have they expelled all the accounts of virpeds, or just the most famous ones? Please, I’m not on twitter. It would be nice if you told us (non-twitters) what happened.

Near as I’ve seen, it’s four or five of the most vocal ones…but I’ve got a private list with roughly 250 people on it…overwhelmingly, they are MAP accounts…many virped…some not…some not terribly active…

Twitter seems to be slowly shutting down virped accounts…but it’s not entirely clear.

I have no idea if my own account is safe, though I do a whole lot more with it, than merely focus on MAP issues…which I think has proven to be an asset, where it comes to this sort of thing.

Virped needs to win this fight, however…because, essentially, they agree with most of the mainstream view on sexual relations between minors and adults…If even they are getting purged…that’s a bad sign.

Admittedly…some of these virped individuals can get pretty aggressive…which makes this all the more hazy…I don’t know if they just got a bit too rough with someone, one to many times…or if it’s more of a sinister plot to pick off MAP accounts.

There’s a lot of games being played, and lies being thrown about, by the people trying to get MAP accounts shut down…and they’ve been successful, in a few cases…

…This is why I have cut off certain people, of a certain group…they’re simply interested in causing confusion and havoc…they are very dirty, underhanded people…

I have way too much vested in my own Twitter account, to see it go down to the tactics of those A-Holes.

It was a really huge blow to me, personally, having to take such a step…as it’s the antithesis of who I am, and what I’m about…I don’t block people, by nature…But I’m not putting up with that.

A really sick joke…is that these same nasty people, who are waging this campaign of lies…they simultaneously bawl their own eyes out, over claims that they are the ones being censored…

They’re extremely nasty and abusive people…They are the ones who deserve to lose their accounts…But they’re causing that fate, to happen to others, who don’t deserve it.

So…to come back around to the original question…They’re targeting “the leaders” of virped, on Twitter…In particular, I believe the ones associated with the “Pedophiles on Pedophilia” blog, got hit hard.

Todd Nickerson is the first WordPress virped I’m aware of, who’s been hit by this…

…It seems a risky proposition, to label yourself as a MAP in your Twitter bio.

Twitter also has this crappy new policy, that makes clear they reserve the right to shut down your account, if they don’t like other groups and resources the account owner is associated with.

…So…there is that, B.S. policy, possibly in action.

On the other hand…I know even NAMBLA MAPs, who simply block abusive A-Holes on Twitter, and essentially they’ve been left in peace…

…I have a fairly long history, of making myself available for dialogue on Twitter…not dissimilar to virped people.

It’s kind of a weird time on Twitter…because you don’t really know what’s going on.

…I’ve been on Twitter since 2009…I have a lot of lists, to monitor a lot of issues…mostly non-MAP issues…That account is valuable to me…possibly on a level, deeper than for most other MAPs.

…What is happening, is pure B.S.

They’re focusing bans on the wrong people.

I suspect, like YouTube…Twitter is trying to force itself to become profitable…and advertisers are making unfair demands, as unscrupulous “journalists” write hit pieces on “Twitter hosting pedophile accounts”.

…It’s the same old B.S. games.
