Republican caught in someone else’s child molestation scandal…

01) Republican caught in someone else’s child molestation scandal

“Republican Congressman Jim Jordan allegedly looked the other way when boys were getting molested on his watch.

Rep. Jim Jordan, the powerful Republican congressman from Ohio, is being accused by former wrestlers he coached more than two decades ago at Ohio State University of failing to stop the team doctor from molesting them and other students.

The university announced in April that it was investigating accusations that Dr. Richard Strauss, who died in 2005, abused team members when he was the team doctor from the mid-1970s to late 1990s.

Jordan, who was assistant wrestling coach at the university from 1986 to 1994, has repeatedly said he knew nothing of the abuse until former students began speaking out this spring, and continued to deny it on Tuesday. His denials, however, have been met with skepticism and anger from some former members of the wrestling team.

Rep. Jim Jordan denies ignoring alleged sex abuse:

TYT’s video contradicts it’s own title…This is not “child molestation”…It is sexual assault, on young adults.

I don’t know who thought it was okay, to spread such disinformation…but that is sloppy, lazy and propagandist.

One has to wonder…if public universities are going to be the next “catholic church”…

…Yet another common public institution, responsible for the lions share of all the things the rest of us get blamed for.

“Yet another common public institution, responsible for the lions share of all the things the rest of us get blamed for”

Firstly, I don’t buy for an instant that all the claims against the Catholic Church (or the other churches) are true. While such institutions are places where power has been abused, and where minds and emotions are warped, I think it is far more likely that some boys enjoyed some sex, and were unable to face the public shame around it due to the combined bigotries of homophobia and pedophobia. And I think it’s further likely that any of them currently facing underemployment would like some of the cash that is now so easily accessible, for being a “victim”.

Secondly, the church may be common, but it’s not public. As a religious institution it enjoys a specially-carved-out status, outside public and private.

In any case, I don’t believe any of these wrestlers at this point. They conveniently accuse a dead man, so they search about for the next richest thing. This time for these accusations was last century. In that climate, that doctor would have been gone in an instant.

Perhaps I should have called it a social institution…But they are generally open to the public, so…I wasn’t really aiming for a legal definition.

      Your points are well taken.

I’m wondering if universities are going to be the next “catholic church”, in the sense that they’re a fat, juicy target for accusations…and some of those accusations will be true.

I’m just astonished that major universities would let this go on for decades, and cover it up.

Maybe it is false accusations…but the MSU Nasser case wasn’t false, from what I see.

Still…blind faith should not be afforced, when charges like these come about.
