      …Hey…Did I just encounter a slight against atheists?…”maladdaptive”?…

Atheism and nihilism are not the same thing…They’re highly different.

That’s not to say that nihilism lacks sincere reasons for existing, either…but you’re not a nihilist as result of being atheist…Most atheists I’ve known identify as humanist.

However…if the social structure one finds themselves in works to injure or destroy them…the folly in seeing “slow life” stability offered by social structure, is very clear.

In fact, the model of that social structure is teaching targeted outcasts, an extremely different lesson [from the majority]…about humans…about banding together…about support…about good will and human nature.

Given the ruthless way many minorities have been treated…I find it completely understandable [if unfortunate], that they would turn inward, and look out only for themselves.

This may seem like a tangent, over an off handed, passing comment…but last I was aware, atheists don’t even make up 3% of the world population…not sure about nihilists…

…It forever astounds me, that people ascribe to atheists this level of negative, influential impact.

I should clarify, also…I’m not throwing nihilists under the bus…

The issue I take, is with Edward presenting atheism [and even nihilism, under certain circumstances], as though it were maladdaptive in a seemingly bad way. I don’t see it that way, at all.

I think, not adapting to norms which are injurious and destructive, is actually a beneficial progression in our species.

Call it my anecdotal experience and opinion, if you like…but to my mind…freeing the mind to think and reason, is a good thing…Atheism, is a good and healthy thing.
