I Am Breaking The Chain!

According to the receipt…I apparently have just about $2875.00 worth of hatred towards your guts.

You will never again get another dollar out of me, for your shitty operating systems.

I hope your headquarters burns to the ground…now, and every single time you rebuild that hell hole.

I am now a Macintosh user…for whatever all that brings with it…I expect it to be a good change…but I am stepping into a personal abyss with this change.

Of course, I’ll continue to keep using this PC…In fact, I may still need it to run certain software…So, I don’t expect to shelve it anytime soon…but I will no longer be prisoner to you, with regard to my simple blogging…or accessing the internet and my various accounts.

Dearest Microsoft…

Fuck You! for all you’ve put me through, over the past year and a half…

Fuck You! for any of my preferred software, that I wont be able to use on my new Mac…

Fuck You! for all the work I’m about to be put through, transferring files and software…

Fuck You! for putting another roadblock in the way, and taking me away from my blogging and other activities while I’m tending to this…

Fuck You! for putting me in such an insufferable position, that I’m forced to make this move right now…

Fuck You! for backing me into a corner, and making me spend all of this money when it should be going to other things…

Fuck You! for the contempt and disrespect you’ve committed towards me…

Fuck You! for being a bunch of stupid motherfuckers, who cant build an OS that isn’t completely vulnerable to Russian hackers…And you “experts” have been doing this for how many decades?!…Dumb bastards…

Fuck You! for licking the FBIs asshole on demand, and forcing your treacherous Windows 10 malpractice hack job down our throats, without even the courtesy of a simple forewarning on what to expect…

Fuck You! for being complete assholes…

To my beloved readers…

…Please forgive my chronic bitching and fit throwing, over the last year in particular…This ordeal has caused me a great deal of stress and turmoil…a ton of anger…I’ve been dealing with a crippled machine, for well over a year…and it is entirely Microsofts fault.

I appreciate all the technical advice I’ve been given…my only reason for not doing it [aside from holding out, in hopes Microsoft would fix its OS], is that I am no techie…and I’ve seriously screwed up at least one of my main PCs in the past, trying to fix or enhance something…I have a ton of files and content to get backed up onto some other device, while I continue to be very active online, with this PC…I’m not going to do anything major, until I get my stuff backed up…I’d rather die, than lose my work…I just don’t even care to go on, if I lose my past work.

I’m honestly quite excited about unboxing my new Mac…and hope I did not make a mistake in this purchase…I didn’t encounter any other non-WinBlows options [IE: Linux], though I know this store has carried a few such options in the past…But, I always kind of wanted to try a Macintosh, anyway…They’re just so damn expensive…But, I guess it’s my new baby now.

I’m still using Windows 7 and quite happy I haven’t made the switch. I also am using another computer with Linux. Very happy with that, but it doesn’t work with some of the software I need to use, so… Windows. Linux is much more user friendly than it was and it comes with a lot of software already installed, so it can be a plug and play deal. I also use external drives to store everything, so I never use the cloud. At least that way, I control my own destiny… up to a point, I guess.

I hate that they are spying on everything we do, so Linux is the choice whenever I’m looking at political content, surfing for something to buy or watching, (gasp) porn.

I’d suggest getting an older and cheaper computer and installing Linux. Keep the other one for what you need and do everything else on the open source platform

Windows 7 is good…The only problem being they aren’t supporting it anymore.

I have two functional Win 7 computers…Both of which I purchased to be dedicated gaming computers…Actually, I have a third Win 7 Computer…but it’s really old, at this point…and has a bad clocking error with it’s processor, causing it to randomly shut off.

So, I don’t really need to buy another old PC…I just need to get to a point where I’m willing to take a leap with one of my older PCs.

I intend to use the Mac for my fluff, gaming stuff, like what you see here on this blog…Since I’ve combined my activities onto one computer, I’ve really appreciated the convenience of it all…but at the same time, I collect up content so fast, it about gives one whiplash.

Honestly…I need a modern, powerful machine to do what I’m doing…I wouldn’t put most of this onto my older machines…I’m sure most of them simply cannot handle it.

…And I get the whole “keep things separate” principle…I used to do this, religiously, myself…I’m physically older and a lot more crippled up these days…It’s not so easy for me to jump between computers, or mentally keep things straight.

Heck…I’m currently locked out of one of those older gaming PCs I mentioned, because I cannot remember the password to my account…I think I might know what it is, but if I’m still wrong I’ll likely have to do a factory reset on that one.

My brain messes up on me a lot, these days…and I’m never really feeling up to doing anything, so it’s a slog to actually pull out my old PCs and do stuff with them…or to back up my files [I also have an external hard drive]…I do it every six months or so…once a year…whatever…I hate dealing with the headache of it all.

I also avoid the cloud like a plague. I use Ubuntu at the moment, but I have used Debian, Tails, Linux Mint, Manjaro and MX Linux. I would recommend, for beginners, Linux Mint, unless they want to use something that is usable, but still “different”, then I would recommend Manjaro. Ubuntu is no longer that beginner-friendly anymore, so I no longer recommend it…
The Macbook Pro that Steve bought is also a good choice, in my opinion. Microsoft can be pretty mean. I never used a Mac, but nobody who uses it around me complains about it. It’s also pretty nice to look at.

Good to see you back. 🙂 If you absolutely need Windows/Mac, it’s cheaper/easier to go down the virtual machine (VM) route with a powerful Linux machine. Any half-decent computer store should be able to build such a machine, if you can’t find a suitable one of Ebay, rather than “forcing” a Mac on you (IMO, they are overpriced status symbols. Don’t get me started on some friends, who must have the new Iphone, only to use it for taking pictures, call and Facebook!). Builtin backups, if windows update fails (on LTSC, that should be less of an issue, thought). BTW, Chris Titus has some good videos on tuning Windows.

For the old computers, an USB stick with Ventoy and a Linux live distro should be enough to do automatic backups (Linux can read and write NTFS, I assume that’s what you use). Apart from the previous content on the USB stick, this is NOT destructive. I can offer more help, when you decided on the kind of backup etc.

    More later.

      Thanks Nada! 🙂

Yes, I’m confident it’s NTFS…Aren’t the FAT versions the “antiquated” ones?

I own the MAC now…though, kind of crazy…I’ve still not unboxed it…I will though…Just want to decide where I want to keep it at…

Strangely, after that third in a row reboot [which pissed me off enough to make the purchase]…I don’t believe this PC went through it’s hours of desktop crashing…It took a somewhat long time to get to the login screen…then it just sort of dragged its feet a bit, but I was able to open up my web browser…and it didn’t crash or hang…took a while for internet websites to load…but it was nothing like usual…It might be a fluke…I don’t want to get my hopes up.

It’s working beautiful at the moment, though.

As to the Mac…I promise not to get snooty, or uppity over my new “status symbol”. ;-P

Honestly…The price tag hurts a bit…but, from what I understand, these computers tend to function better than typical PCs…We’ll find out.

For a few seconds, I was considering the 32GB of RAM model…for an additional grand…Not sure if I should have or not…Sounds like something that could be useful, well into the future.

This one has a ten core processor…Oh my!
