“Batya Ungar-Sargon discusses the criticism The New York Times has received for its coverage of transgender issues.”
If people have a right to transition…then they also have a right to pause, hold off on, or even reverse said transition…Don’t they?…
Complicated reality…Detransitionists do exist…Some cases seem to believably be the victims of an overly aggressive, transition industry.
Like I’ve said all along…Things aren’t entirely understood…As much as I love prepubescents, I’m not so sure it’s good to pharmaceutically stop puberty for extended periods of time…well into ones teens.
I also think this should be taken slow…People might find that they actually enjoy the natural biology they were born with, if they just give it time. You don’t want to decide you’ve made a terrible mistake, once your genitals are irreversibly changed.
In addition, full transitions sterilize you…You cannot have your own biological children, once you’ve gone that far. This is something that may become important to you, somewhere down the line.
However crappy the New York Times may be…I don’t believe they are wrong, in writing about this issue…
…What are the checks and balances in this field, after all?
