Date: August 29, 2020

01) Merlin S1 E1: The Dragon’s Call

“In this episode:
With the arrival of a young warlock in Camelot a legend is born; Merlin.

Series DescriptionMerlin will one day be the greatest wizard that the world will ever know, but for now, he is just a young man, geeky and awkward, who must keep his talent hidden in a kingdom where magic is banned or face certain death.

CastColin Morgan, Bradley James, Angel Coulby, Katie McGrath, Richard Wilson, Anthony Head, John Hurt

Director James Hawes”

I’m trilled to find this series to share.

This is the beginning episode of Merlin…a popular BBC series that went on for five seasons.

Asa Butterfield [super cute here!] makes at least two appearances.

This is a good series, even if it is uneven in some regards.

The CGI is not always great…There is the occasional tacky episode…

…but don’t let any dorky moments fool you…this is still a good quality show…even if it’s not always the deepest.

I’ve read reviewers of this series say that it would likely appeal to Harry Potter fans…Which I think is a fair assessment.

SnagFilms Has Shut Down :-(…

Date: August 28, 2020

01) SnagFilms

“Twelve years ago, after showcasing a documentary at the Sundance Film Festival, we realized how difficult it was for nearly every independent filmmaker to reach their full potential global audience via traditional distribution. SnagFilms was born out of that need. For 12 years, we provided a home to thousands of filmmakers – for many, the only way their films could be seen.

It has always been a difficult business proposition, and with the current economic crisis, an impossible one for us to continue. With deep regret, we have shut down the SnagFilms service, and by the end of May will be wrapping up our relationships with the filmmakers, production companies and other content owners we have been honored to serve for more than a decade.

Film fans, please continue to seek out independent film and television – these unique voices are more important than ever.

And thanks to all for your past support.

Rick Allen, CEO”

SnagFilms was one of the better “free movie channels”, you could find on Roku…and online…

It featured independent films, and was really quite great.

This is a pretty heavy blow, from my point of view.

I had a long list of URLs, to movies on their server which I’d intended on sharing here…In fact, I was browsing that list a bit ago, trying to find a movie to share tonight…when I was ultimately led to this heart breaking announcement.

This Special Friendship (1964)…

Date: February 28, 2018

01) This Special Friendship (1964 Movie)!

“English Subtitles Version! Drama / LGBT! Les amitiés particulières is a 1964 film adaptation of the Roger Peyrefitte novel Les amitiés particulières directed by Jean Delannoy. It stars Francis Lacombrade as Georges, Didier Haudepin as Alexandre and Michel Bouquet as Père de Trennes.

The movie is mostly true to the novel, changing only relatively minor plot points such as Alexandre’s suicide from poisoning to death by throwing himself from a train. Also, Alexandre in the movie is brown-haired, not blond, which also removes some of the inside jokes between Alexandre and Georges which are present in the book.

On the set of the film, Peyrefitte, who was 57-years-old at the time, met the 12-year-old aristocrat

01) Quest

“By Ray Bradbury, Directed by Elaine and Saul Bass.

On a distant planet, descendants of a crashed spaceship are subjected to mysterious forces that cause them to age and die in just eight days. They must also live in caves to escape the bitter cold of night and the killing heat of day. One young boy is determined to find his way back to the ship that brought them there. But how will accomplish this in the short time left to him?”

I remember being infatuated by this movie, as it’s VHS box sat on the shelf of our local library…It’s cover featured Noah Hathaway…who I had a substantial crush on…Apparently, I had forgotten about us checking this one out…I’d always remembered the picture on the box…Always wanted to watch it…Then I just did, and I recall…that I have seen this.

No More “Age Verification” Free Video Embedding…

Date: March 23, 2017

I’ve stopped using the embedding code, that sidesteps the YouTube age verification.

Potentially, you’ve noticed that a lot of the embedded videos from YouTube are all giving a playback error?

For years, I’ve used the embedding code that is supposed to let anyone watch a video outright, without worrying about logging into YouTube to verify their age…This was done as a courtesy to my visitors.

As always…YouTube has recently made changes to their website…and from the looks of it, they’ve disabled this method of embedding…whether intentional, or not.

This means for me, that I have already dropped the usage of it…To be honest, it was annoying having to deal with a few things about it, anyway…I’m glad to be done with it.

But, now a ton of embedded videos won’t play on this blog…Fortunately, this is why I’ve always included a direct link to the YouTube video page…So, there should be no real issue…Just click on the link…Watch it on YouTube.

All the best…

– Steve

Lord Of The Rings Prequels…

Date: March 13, 2017

01) Born of Hope – Full Movie

“Uploaded on Dec 11, 2009

Born of Hope is an independent feature film inspired by the Lord of the Rings and produced by Actors at Work Productions in the UK.

A scattered people, the descendants of storied sea kings of the ancient West, struggle to survive in a lonely wilderness as a dark force relentlessly bends its will toward their destruction. Yet amidst these valiant, desperate people, hope remains. A royal house endures unbroken from father to son.

This 70 minute original drama is set in the time before the War of the Ring and tells the story of the Dúnedain, the Rangers of the North, before the return of the King. Inspired by only a couple of paragraphs written by Tolkien in the appendices of the Lord of the Rings we follow Arathorn and Gilraen, the parents of Aragorn, from their first meeting through a turbulent time in their people’s history.”

02) The Hunt For Gollum – Full Movie Redux

It was made on a budget of $5000 by a large team of volunteers in England and Wales. No original footage, sound or music was used in this film. The entire film was shot or created by the production team from scratch.

It is released not-for-profit to the Internet.

Starring UK actors Adrian Webster as Strider, Patrick O’Connor as Mithrandir, Arin Alldridge as Arithir & Gareth Brough as the voice of Gollum”

03) Born of Hope (Lord of the Rings) – full soundtrack

Considering that these were fan made movies…It’s really quite impressive what they did here. It would be nice to see them make more of these.

01) Snagfilms: Caravaggio

“Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio lived his life as he painted it; full of intensity, sensuality and passion. But at the height of his success in the early 17th century, his violent nature and his unrelenting love for Fillide Melandroni, a prostitute with a dark past, led to his tragic downfall. This Italian biopic stars Alessio Boni as the legendary, tortured artist.”

NOTE: SnagFilms appears to be on the frits, right now…I’ve been setting on this post for at least a week. I’m posting this post, but it’s hard to say if, or when, you’ll be able to watch this movie on their website.
