Star Wars: Episode IX – Teaser…

01) Star Wars: Episode IX – Teaser

“Every generation has a legend. Watch the brand-new teaser for Star Wars: Episode IX.”

I enjoyed The Force Awakens…I enjoyed The Last Jedi…

…But I have to confess, that I left the theater after Last Jedi, still not knowing where this trilogy was even going [aside from the obvious, that Rey is likely a Skywalker]…The movie still failed to solidify, any concrete overarching narrative of the trilogy…aside from “here is Rey, developing into a Jedi”…Everything else just feels like ‘whatever is happening around her”…Interesting to watch…but it doesn’t feel like it’s all that epic…and it’s hard to define, exactly what it is in the larger picture.

Because of this…how this trilogy turns out, primarily hinges on how Rise of Skywalker handles things…Pretty much everything is resting on this one movie, because Last Jedi did not do what it was supposed to do.

I hope they pull this off well.

CHUCK & BUCK Director Almost Turned Down ‘Creepy’ Film:

“Versatile Hollywood director Miguel Arteta talks about his 2000 comedy CHUCK & BUCK and how he accepted the job despite being warned by industry friends that it might be too ‘creepy’ and could amount to career suicide. Arteta also talks about pressing forward with the project despite repeatedly getting turned down for financing on this highlight clip of Talk Show with Harper Simon.”

Chuck and Buck – Wanna go see my room?:

Chuck & Buck (12/12) Movie CLIP – He Made Me This Way (2000) HD:

“CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Buck (Mike White) tells Carlyn (Beth Colt) about growing up with Chuck.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
Following his critically acclaimed Star Maps, Miguel Arteta directs this perverse Odd Couple-esque comedy drama. Childhood best buddies Chuck and Buck are reunited after 18 years during the funeral of the latter’s mother. Chuck (Chris Weitz who also produced American Pie (1999)) is a button-down movie executive with a gorgeous blond fiancée, Carlyn (Beth Colt). By contrast, the intervening years do not seem to have matured Buck (Mike White) in the slightest — he still plays with children’s toys, throws bawling temper tantrums, and seems to be utterly at a loss at what to do after his mother’s death. During the funeral, Buck greets his old friend with an oblivious joy that is hardly appropriate to the setting. Clearly expecting that the friendship will continue where it left off back during the Carter administration, Buck seems confused and sullen in the presence of Carlyn, a yucky girl. This jealousy turns more unnerving when, in midst of a brotherly hug, Buck makes a clumsy grope for Chuck’s manhood. Disturbed and embarrassed, Chuck quickly leaves, but not before Carlyn politely suggests that Buck “visit us in L.A. sometime.” Buck leaps at the chance and soon is packing up for California. He quickly degenerates from a silly, though pathetic annoyance to a lollipop-sucking stalker. Buck’s bizarre attempts to renew his bond with Chuck and to consummate their relationship puts Chuck increasingly on edge and confronts the affluent yuppie with a past he’d just as soon forget. Chuck & Buck was one of the most talked about films at the 2000 Sundance Film Festival.”

Chuck & Buck (7/12) Movie CLIP – We Should Play a Game (2000) HD:

I’d not go so far as to say I “liked” this movie…but it holds an intrigue to me.

Plot wise…it’s like a cancerous horror story, saddling childhood sexuality with “yet another reason, why you should avoid it like the plague”…”the bonding kids could do through sex, might inhibit them from being able to let go”…and “could cause serious issues, later in life”…

That feels very child sex phobic, in my mind…and like a terrible way of framing things.

On the other hand…it still handles the issue of childhood sex in a relatively simple, level headed way…There is no special emphasis placed, on the fact that it happened…It’s even deemed completely normal, in one scene.

What is abnormal…is Chuck’s inability to let go of what they had, and move on.

On still yet another angle…I love this as a unique plot. It is a valid topic to explore, in my opinion.

The problem with it…is that it’s something that got made…in an era where there is absolutely no balance, in the public sphere of discourse surrounding childhood sexuality.

…So…it largely comes off like “another rock thrown at childhood sexuality”…where there is nothing to really counterbalance it.

That’s what I am wanting in media…the counterbalance, which has been sorely missing.

This movie is passed off as a “dark comedy”…and I suppose it is…

…Though I think the issue posed deserves far better than a “dark comedy”, where most everything is glossed over, and we arrive at a “happy ending” via a montage in the last five minutes of the movie.

Gut instinct tells me…this movie would have been way better, had a BoyLover made it…We at least possess a natural insight, which other people have a hard time capturing and presenting [or just flat out cant].

I have a hard time categorizing this movie…I used to own a copy of it…then got rid of it…

…I don’t really miss it.

Excalibur (1981) Retrospective / Review…

01) Excalibur (1981) Retrospective / Review

I remember watching this for the first time as a young boy…nine or ten, probably…

What stuck with me was the Lady of the Lake…I thought the lake was haunted, and she was a ghost “living” in the lake…

Her clothing was strange to me…especially the sleeves that went up her arms…I initially thought it made them look like rotting, dead arms rising out of the lake…The way the material reflected the light while still having dark spots…that’s just how it struck me.

This reviewer is correct…Excalibur has the qualities of a creepy, horror movie at points…along with a lot of other great stuff.

01) Capernaum – Official Trailer 2 HD (2018)

“Directed by: Nadine Labaki

Screenplay by: Nadine Labaki, Jihad Hojeily, Michelle Kesrouani

Starring: Zain Al Rafeea, Yordanos Shiferaw, Boluwatife Treasure Bankole

Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, CAPERNAUM (“Chaos”), a new film by Nadine Labaki about the journey of a clever, gutsy 12-year-old boy, Zain, who survives the dangers of the city streets by his wits. He flees his parents and to assert his rights, takes them to court suing them for the “crime” of giving him life.

http://sonyclassics.com/capernaum/

I’ve wondered many times…what is the culpability of imposing life upon another sentient creature?

…A question which becomes unanswerable, in my eyes…when weighed against the countless ways, in which this world will hold down…exploit…isolate…sometimes even break and cripple, that sentient creature someone else has decided will exist.

People act like everyone should be overjoyed, to have reached cognitive awareness…to have experienced their own senses, and the experiences of this world…because the alternative [never to have existed] is presumed to have been “so terrible”…

…But that doesn’t mean a whole lot, to someone who spends their entire life struggling to get by…struggling to keep going…

…It’s cold comfort, to anyone disillusioned by life…It’s a bitter mockery, to anyone for whom life is a torment, from which they wish most to escape…and now wander through the awful process, of plotting that escape.

Life is not an equal gift to all.

…There are any number of people on this planet…who are brought into being…and then spend most of their lives being rejected, blamed and cursed, for who and what they biologically are.

It just makes no sense to me…

…This has never made any sense to me.

01) Andrew Lincoln Will Return As Rick Grimes In 3 Walking Dead Movies

“Andrew Lincoln is returning to The Walking Dead universe as Rick Grimes in three spin-off movies. The Walking Dead’s Chief Content Officer Scott Gimple officially announced the news on Talking Dead following Andy’s last episode on the AMC drama. “This is not going to be the end of Rick Grimes’ story,” Gimple said. “We’re going to continue telling Rick Grimes’ story in a series of AMC original films. There’s a lot of story to tell.”

In September, AMC Networks’ President and CEO Josh Sapan said at a Goldman Sachs Communacopia Conference, “The Walking Dead is a universe…and we have a plan to manage over the next decade, plus.”

Venom is a hit, so is Spider-man Finished in the MCU now?…

01) Venom is a hit, so is Spider-man Finished in the MCU now?

“In its first weekend of release, Sony’s Venom defied the lackluster reviews from professional critics, and opened to 80 million at the domestic box office, and to the audience consensus that it “wasn’t that bad”.

But the downside with Venom scoring this kind of boxoffice, is that it gives Sony every incentive to yank Spider-man out of the MCU, and put him into their own budding Sony Marvel universe, alongside Venom, Morbius and Kraven.

In this post-release analysis (not postmortem, as the movie didn’t bomb), @AndreEinherjar will explore just that further. To do so, the Venom boxoffice numbers will be put into context, where the movie stepped wrong and what it did right will be dissected, and then finally, what this boxoffice result could mean for Sony’s own Marvel Universe, and by extension, Spider-man’s future presence in the legitimate Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

Looked at on its own…

…I think he’s correct, that Sony would be more incentivized to unite it’s successful Marvel properties…

…Which would be bad for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, should this mean Spiderman will no longer appear in their movies…They’ve invested a lot in him, already…He needs to stay and develop.

No doubt…this is why he’s been made, and kept, a minor character…Marvel didn’t want him to get too big, in case he ended up getting yanked out of their movies?

I can understand Marvel not wanting to recognize movies made outside of their control, as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe…but part of me wishes they would give their blessing, and allow the crossover[s].
