01) [BoyChat] Obituary…

“TPKA Sherry, also known as Sherry Reasons has passed due to […]…stage 4 lung cancer…

She was a regular here at BC and an Admin at Crossroads Forum…”

I remember Sherry quite well…She was also on the ClosEncounters board admin, which was a predecessor to Crossroads.

I was also part of the ClosEncounters admin…So, I got to work with her on that project.

Sherry was a really good, decent person.

Her absence has not gone unnoticed…and she will be missed.

George A. Romero…

Date: August 14, 2017

01) George Romero, ‘Night Of The Living Dead’ Director, Dies At 77

He died almost a month ago…

“…Romero passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday while listening to the score of one of his all-time favorite films, The Quiet Man. His wife, Suzanne Desrocher Romero and daughter, Tina Romero were at his side. Romero had been battling lung cancer.

Born George Andrew Romero in the Bronx, New York City on Feb. 4, 1940 to a Cuban father and a Lithuania American mother, Romero launched his filmmaking career in the early 1960s, shortly after graduation from the College of Fine Arts at Carnegie Mellon University.

Romero was a pioneer in the zombie-horror movie genre and early established a name for himself with such films as the satirical Night of the Living Dead, which spawned Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, The Crazies and Martin. He defined the modern template for bringing the scary, gruesome and dead to life on screen, inspiring a myriad of zombies in Hollywood and the more recent high-rated AMC series, The Walking Dead.

– July 16, 2017”

How did this happen, without my learning of it?

The last Romero “Dead” movie I saw that I actually liked, was “Diary of the Dead”…

…”Night of the Living Dead” was fun…”Dawn of the Dead” is great…”Day of the Dead” is great…”Land of the Dead” is terrible…”Diary of the Dead” is good…”Survival of the Dead” is highly disappointing…even more so, since it’s the final movie, and it’s so bad.

I loved “Tales from the Darkside”.

I’m sorry to see George go.

Gatekeeper / Abraxas…

Date: July 02, 2017

01) Gatekeeper

The MAP community has lost a very old friend.

Gatekeeper, aka Abraxas, was a BoyLover and Girl-Lover, who frequented both BoyChat and GirlChat. He was a pioneer of sorts, in that he was an original co-host of the MAP podcast, Pedologues…Though he left the show early on, he came back for one other episode, late in the series.

I have a lot of respect for Abraxas…He weathered a lot of abuse, on a number of fronts…He was a fighter for us MAPs…and a credit to our community.

He always wished the BL and GL communities would put aside their differences and feuds, and stand united.

I never knew him on a personal level…but I always looked upon him with friendship.

He will be missed.

01) Song to Say Goodbye – Placebo (High Quality)

This may seem like a totally inappropriate song, given it’s lyrics…But I feel like, given the complicated state of our relationship over the decades…this song and video embodies the experience…And I’ve been drawn too it, over and over, in the weeks after my father’s death.

For some reason…this song kept coming back to me, in the months leading up to his death, as well…

It’s hard to explain…I knew in my gut, that time was short…I could feel it…Maybe, it’s just an extra sense you have, when you’ve known someone all of your life.

I’ve recently had three dreams, in which he has made an appearance…They were all strange…

…But the one that’s meant the most, is the one where I was walking along…Where?…I have no idea…though I think it was dark…and something floats up behind me, and hugs me from my back…And for a second, I know it is him…and he says, “I love you”…and then is gone…

I don’t believe in these things as a literal thing…Sometimes, I wish I did…But, in times of stress and mourning, your mind can be especially active in dreams…and focused on whatever is happening.

It would be nice to think, I’ve had a literal contact with dad.

Not a lot of words here…Just acknowledging the loss of Prince.

He was insane, but extremely talented…His creativity had a really, really, really wide range…It’s unfortunate he died.

Here is a small collection of [mostly] “off the beaten path” stuff, from Prince…or at least including him.

I hope you enjoy these.

David Bowie…

01) David Bowie Dies at 69; a Chameleon in Music, Art and Fashion

“David Bowie, the infinitely changeable, fiercely forward-looking songwriter who taught generations of musicians about the power of drama, images and personas, died on Sunday, two days after his 69th birthday.

His death was confirmed by his publicist, Steve Martin, on Monday morning. No other details were provided.

Mr. Bowie had been treated for cancer for the last 18 months, according to a statement on his social-media accounts. “David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family,” a post on his Facebook page read.”

Writing this on the day after [January 11, 2016], I am trying hard to remember if I had even read or heard anything about David getting cancer. I think I vaguely remember a local DJ mentioning something about it, last summer…But it being terminal, is a total shock to me…and realizing this the day after his death…it’s honestly dumbfounding.

When it comes to musicians from the 60’s and 70’s like David Bowie…I came from the kind of family setting, where you had a vague familiarity with their music, and the fact that they were out there in the world…but you were never intimately familiar with them, or their work.

Some of these people and groups evolved, and were part of the scene when I really got bit by the music bug at about twelve or so…and my parents divorced, which moved me to a different setting where enjoyment of music was very open and liberal…David Bowie was having a resurgence and was huge again…”Let’s Dance” was a huge hit on the radio…and I loved the song…still do, today.

That was the era of his career, which was the real introduction for me, as an individual.

It would not be until the early to mid nineties, when I would start exploring David’s earlier work…which I had some familiarity with…but not like I would come to know and love it, as time passed by.

Like a number of older bands and artists [Alice Cooper, KISS, etc.]…I developed a deep appreciation for David’s music and talent…not just the “soundtrack of my life” stuff [which several tracks could sincerely fit into]…but on a wider scale…I came to love a number of songs, I never genuinely knew before.

You wonder where all the time goes…and how someone who was once so vibrant, has faded out of the public eye…to the point you don’t even know what is going on with them anymore…Then you discover they are dead.

Of course…it happens to everybody…But I was not at all prepared to learn about this one…

Goodbye, David Bowie (1947-2016)

Thank you, for what you have given to us.

Robin Sharpe…

01) Robin Sharpe has passed away

02) BoyWiki: Robin Sharpe

If you did not know…Robin Sharpe was a very brave Canadian, who spent years fighting “child pornography” prohibition laws. He paid a high price for his unflinching ethical stance.

His official date of death is not known by me, but I wanted to memorialize this giant amongst BoyLovers.

I did locate this article by Tom O’Carroll, which I think is fitting to share at a time like this.

I’ve had a great deal of empathy and respect for Robin, over the years.

Paul Christiano, B4U-ACT board member, dies.

Date: August 06, 2015

01) BoyChat: Paul Christiano, B4U-ACT board member, dies.

02) B4U-ACT Statement on Website

“Paul Christiano has for many years been a tireless volunteer and board member for B4U-ACT. We are sorry to have to share that sometime this past weekend Paul took his own life. He was a very hard working, intelligent and articulate man who helped B4U-ACT tremendously; a talented and creative artist and a dancer from Chicago; and loved by his family and friends.”

My personal condolences, to Paul’s family and friends.

I did not know Paul on any personal level, but am very saddened by this news.

A little over a year ago, Paul released a film titled “Unspeakable”, which I linked to here.

Having once heard Paul give a live interview on a radio talk show…I do know he was a very brave individual, who walked the walk. He fought for what he believed in…And even if some in the wider MAP community don’t like acknowledging this…Paul fought on behalf of all of us, in some regard.

Despite all he did…many of us were oblivious, to the abyss he was facing, himself.

I am sorry, Paul…

…There should have been far more of us there for you, in your darkest hours.

– Steve
