Atheist and Humanist Podcast Links – Last Update: October 30, 2018
This is my “Atheist Media Podcasts” page…
While most of these projects are produced by confirmed atheists, a few of these are not specifically atheist…such as the humanist podcast. However, all of these productions will generally be complementary to atheism. If you are an atheist…you might enjoy one, or several, of these. If you are not an atheist, then you still may find something of interest, regardless.
With exception to a few of these [which I found, while trying to relocate some podcasts, I’d fallen out of contact with], I’ve spent a substantial amount of time [several years, in a few cases] downloading and listening to these podcasts.
Note: If you know of any good quality atheist, humanist and freethought podcasts [or other media], and would like to submit them for inclusion on this page, please send me the links. I will consider all submissions, though I should stress that my intention here is to highlight content which is “above the fray”. I am not looking for YouTube channels, owned by atheists who meander and rant about everything [though I’ll be the first to admit, I privately enjoy a few channels of that nature]. There is a certain standard of substantive content, being enforced on this page.
The Latest Additions:
When you see this flashing light, everything below it is amongst the latest additions to this list.
Sorry, this list is not alphabetized.
The Humanist Hour [previously “Humanist Network News”]:
Summary:Great podcast! I’ve found this to be one of the better humanist podcasts out there. It’s gone through some changes, since it started…but, this production is solid.
Freethought Radio [Freedom From Religion Foundation]:
Summary:Good podcast…For better or worse, the Freedom From Religion Foundation is the organization which has gained some infamy, over the lawsuits it has filed regarding religious monuments, etc…Some instances, even I would call boneheaded. All the same, you might enjoy the podcast.
Summary:If you like “Real Time with Bill Maher”, you might appreciate knowing that they make the audio from every show available, as a free podcast. I recommend subscribing to the feed URL, and downloading them from there. The HBO website is very media/code heavy, and takes a while to load up [I find that annoying, personally]. This is not, strictly speaking, atheist media…but, a lot of atheists appreciate Bill’s viewpoints…allegedly, Bill finally came around, and admitted being agnostic atheist [though I have not verified this].
Summary:Dr. Bob Price is a bonafide bible scholar [attended seminary, in pursuit of the ministry], and an atheist, too! Bob got his start, on “The Infidelguy Show”. His show may not be to everyone’s taste, but if you’ve never heard him before, I recommend giving him a listen. It’s amazing, the depths of biblical knowledge Bob has. He has no qualms, about dissecting passages of the bible, with critical examination yet good humor…He can also answer a lot of questions, about historical contexts of passages, etc. Bob is the only person I’ve listened to, who can read a passage, elaborate on what it is stating, talk about who may have wrote it, discuss it’s context, explain why it may have been possible or not, and maybe even suggest that the author had been smoking something funny…Classic stuff.
Summary:Some people may find him offensive, but I love Pat Condel! He is frank, in a very witty sort of way, and is not vulgar. The way he skewers religion, is a true art. I’ve gotten a lot of laughs, out of his podcast. That being said, he mostly focuses on religious zealots, and issues that the majority of us would likely call outrageous. Some people think he crosses the line, but as a former “christian”, myself…I think he says things about religion born behavior, which are entirely warranted. The fact that it’s often funny how he says it, makes this podcast all the better.
Summary:Strictly speaking, this is not a podcast, but a collection of very interesting recordings. It does not appear to be an active project, as the last entry was well over a year ago. I suggest accessing them via the feed URL, as the main website keeps crashing my web browser.
Summary:Each week, famed magician, comedian and best-selling author Penn Jillette is joined by co-hosts Michael Goudeau and Matt Donnelly, to discuss the news of the week. Goudeau, an Emmy winning writer and former clown, and Donnelly, a writer and producer, join Penn with very opinionated minds to examine pop-culture and entertainment, political and religious news, talk about monkeys, and anything else that seems funny or makes them mad in today’s world.
Summary:[A Dead Podcast] – The half dozen or so episodes of this podcast, were recorded during 2005 and 2006. Seemingly, it ran out of steam somewhat quickly. This does not look to be related to “A Christian and an Atheist”, which is also linked here. It’s still fairly interesting.
Summary: Good podcast. I enjoy these kinds of respectful “give and take” exchanges, between theists and atheists. I think these are some of the most productive, in bridging gaps between the two communities…That is something I wish we would see more of.
Summary:Discover the history of how we got here – from the big bang to last week’s science breakthroughs. Curiosity fuels creativity. Join us each week as we dive deep into mind-blowing big ideas, and help us make a freaking awesome tomorrow! Discover the Past. Create the Future. Hosted by three science-loving skeptics: Stephen Woodford (Rationality Rules), Rachel Oates, and Thomas Westbrook (Holy Koolaid).
Summary:The Atheist Experience is a weekly Internet television show based in Austin, Texas geared at a non-atheist audience. Every week we field live calls from atheists and believers alike, and you never know what you’re going to get! Sometimes it can get quite feisty indeed! You don’t want to miss it.
