01) CA town offers free tiny house plans for legal backyard housing

“Looking for a local solution to the California housing shortage, Clovis city planners bypassed legalizing tiny houses on wheels for what they saw as a solution more attractive to homeowners: providing free fee-waived plans for backyard “cottage” homes. The three plan options are for homes 400-square-feet or less, and are available to homeowners with access to an alleyway (a prominent feature of Old Town Clovis). Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs), AKA “granny flats” or in-law units, are legal in California, but Clovis Planning Director Dwight Kroll says the savings under their Backyard Cottage program are substantial. He estimates 9 to 10 thousand dollars for the plans, plus a few thousand more to have them approved by the building department. On top of this it can cost another $5000 for water and sewage connection fees (plan participants can avoid this by connecting the new units to existing services).

01) The Darwin Day Lecture 2017, with Lawrence Krauss – Cosmic Natural Selection

“Titled ‘Cosmic natural selection’, Professor Lawrence Krauss’s Darwin Day Lecture marked fifteen years of British Humanist Assocation (BHA) lectures commemorating the life and work of Charles Darwin, and was as per tradition chaired by BHA patron Professor Richard Dawkins. Krauss, the first physicist to give the Darwin Day Lecture, was a fitting choice because his work, much like Darwin’s, has helped us to uncover dramatic truths about our world, said Professor Dawkins: ‘Even more dramatically than Darwin, Lawrence Krauss has shown us that a universe can indeed spring from nothing.’”

01) Corey Feldman: I can no longer defend Michael Jackson

“Actor, Corey Feldman, a long-time friend of Michael Jackson tells HLN’s Mike Galanos about the man he knew and how that jibes with the startling allegations made in the controversial HBO documentary “Leaving Neverland.”

Not really taking any clear stance…except the predictable…

…Feels more like Corey just wants to get in front of a camera on a big platform, and this presented an opportunity.

Still…it has been in the back of my mind, that Corey has been a staunch supporter of Michael Jackson all along…and how awkward that seems…

…It seems he’s a staunch supporter no more.

Gender pay gap: myth or reality?…

Date: March 22, 2019

01) Gender pay gap: myth or reality?

“The gender pay-gap has long been an issue for feminists, but in the past year it has hit the headlines more than ever before. Feminists have called for quotas, pay-cuts for men and pay incentives for women to help level the playing field in the world of work. But is there really a gender pay gap? Is sexism in the workplace rife, or is the gender pay gap a by-product of the choices women make? Filmed at the Battle of Ideas by WORLDbytes volunteers the speakers do more than ‘stats-slinging’ to make their case.

The speakers are: Kate Andrews, Associate director for the Institute of Economic Affairs; Jessica Butcher MBE, Co-founder of Blippar/Inspiral; Fiona Mactaggart, Chair of Trustees for the Fawcett Society and Rebecca Reid, Columnist for the Telegraph Online. The chair is Ella Whelan, Columnist at spiked Magazine and author of ‘What Women Want’.”
