01) Depression, the secret we share – Andrew Solomon

“The opposite of depression is not happiness, but vitality, and it was vitality that seemed to seep away from me in that moment.” In a talk equal parts eloquent and devastating, writer Andrew Solomon takes you to the darkest corners of his mind during the years he battled depression. That led him to an eye-opening journey across the world to interview others with depression — only to discover that, to his surprise, the more he talked, the more people wanted to tell their own stories. (Filmed at TEDxMet.)”

Did The Senate Just Save Net Neutrality?:

01) Trump Donor Just Drained His Swamp All Over America’s Face

“At the same time Elliott Broidy was cashing in on his access to President Trump by pitching him on behalf of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, he was also receiving the biggest payouts in the history of his company from the U.S. government.

Monday, the Associated Press reported on the months-long 2017 lobbying effort carried out by Broidy and George Nader that brought the pair close to securing nearly $1 billion in contracts with the Saudis and the Emiratis in exchange for lobbying against their enemy, Qatar. Also during the pair’s lobbying blitz in the fall of 2017, Broidy’s company received its largest payouts to date from the federal government on contracts it had been seeking to secure for years, The Daily Beast has learned.

“Race is a little bit like gravity,” john powell says: experienced by all, understood by few. He is a refreshing, redemptive thinker who counsels all kinds of people and projects on the front lines of our present racial longings. Race is relational, he reminds us. It’s as much about whiteness as about color. He takes new learnings from the science of the brain as forms of everyday power. “We don’t have to imagine doing things one at a time,” he says. “It’s not, ‘how do we get there?’ It’s, ‘how do we live?”

01) Amos Yee VS Count Dankula (Response Video)

“Youth rights activist responds to the debate between Amos Yee and Count Dankula on the subject of children’s sexuality and adults who have an attraction to people under the age-of-consent.

I tell you who is right or wrong and bring accuracy to where neither of them were. I also consider how good or bad each one’s debate tactics are.

If you’re wondering, my personal opinion of each individual is that Amos Yee is thoughtful, compassionate and brave. I don’t know as much about Count Dankula but I think he is close-minded on this issue, however, he’s intelligent and has a good sense of humour (when he’s not laughing at suicidal teenagers) – basically, if we lived in a better world I think I’d get on well with him. With these prejudices he has now though, not so much.

Dr. Marty Klein: Is Your Therapist Sexually Literate?…

….

Date: May 22, 2018

01) Is Your Therapist Sexually Literate?

“…So what parts of sex require a partner? Kissing; hugging; closeness; smelling, tasting, and viewing another; feeling wanted; and the pleasure of giving someone a gift. It’s these things that motivate most sex, not orgasms.

Masturbation isn’t a substitute for sex, it is sex. It’s a form of self-soothing and of autonomy that most people never “outgrow.”

If someone would rather masturbate than have sex with a partner, the problem is NOT that masturbation is so attractive, but rather with the partner sex or the relationship (or the person’s discomfort about intimacy in general).

Therapists who are wary of masturbation in adults are often concerned about the appeal of many forms of sexual expression. They fear that the “wrong” kind of sex will pull people away from the “right” kind of sex. Such therapists hesitate to trust people—including their patients—to evaluate their sexual choices. Instead of discussing and teaching sexual decision-making skills, they tend to tell people what to do and what not to do.”

What a thing it would be, to have sex therapists who specialize in pedophilia advice…

…No…not the modern type, which claims to exist [who are actually just prohibitive social handlers]…but, the literal sort of therapist who knows what they’re talking about…and can give genuine advice on sexual relations with a prepubescent child…

The possibilities…so many possibilities…

The linked article is focused on adult with adult relationships…so, the advice is in line with that.

I find the comments on masturbation to be quite good…

…Having been a life long fan of masturbation…well…

I think it goes without saying…he is correct in those regards.

“Anthropologist Helen Fisher explores the biological workings of our intimate passions, the brew of chemicals, hormones, and neurotransmitters that make the thrilling and sometimes treacherous realms of love and sex. In the research she does for match.com and her TED Talks that have been viewed by millions of people, she wields science as an entertaining, if sobering, lens on what feel like the most meaningful encounters of our lives. In this deeply personal conversation, she shows how it is possible to take on this knowledge as a form of wisdom and power.”
