“The naked boy monument in the Rózsadomb district of Budapest is a sculpture by Péter Menasági. It represents the martyrdom of Péter Mansfeld, a young freedom fighter who in 1956, was imprisoned at the age of 15 by the communist Hungarian government led by Mátyás Rákosi, subsequently tortured, and, cynically, twelve days after his 18th coming-of-age birthday in 1959, taken to the gallows and hung.”
“The second statue called Hullocsillag (Man Falling To His Death), again represents Péter Mansfeld and his heroic national sacrifice.”

“They say you can’t tell a book by its cover, but fortunately that hasn’t discouraged artists around the globe from producing some incredible cover art inspired by Kipling’s stories. On these pages I’ve arranged a random sampling, an even two dozen at a time, most of which link to bigger versions. Many of these covers are from my own collection. Others are taken from eBay auction listings, and a couple are from the Jungle Book Collection site, with acknowledgements to Marc.” This is really quite something…Very interesting collection to browse.
“Standing on a stepped pedestal, in front of some typically boring Soviet-built apartment blocks, is a polychrome-painted statue, apparently sculpted in the late 1960s, depicting a lifesize nude Mowgli crouching beside Bagheera (Maugli and Bagira/Маугли и Багира in Russian) as they both peer intently into the distance.” Despite its condition, this is still quite a nice statue.

This may not be the best resolution [it’s a tapestry printing company, after all]…and Cupid/Eros may look kind of like a girl… …But this angel from William Adolphe Bouguereau, is a boy…and this piece of art has been a favorite of mine, for decades. Holy Crap!…You can even get it printed on a face mask, for fifteen dollars!!! …To bad I didn’t know about this before the pandemic set in!
I could have been setting fashion trends!
