Date: September 19, 2006 This selection from “In Self Defense: The Life and Times of An Atheist BoyLover…Memoirs and Ethos”, has been narrated by Rocco White. Please enjoy the listen, or read along if you like…or need to. * Note: Near as I can tell, this was likely something I wrote as a comment on someone’s blog, back in 2006…Maybe even my own, while having a dialogue with a reader. I wish I had some original comments, to directly quote. I expect, the original comment had to do with disenfranchisement, hunger for freedom and scapegoats…I considered it worthwhile to keep…and hope you find it of some value. Disillusionment can have many results…as can disenfranchisement. That quote you give…It sounds like something which could have been taken directly out of the movie, “V for Vendetta”… …In fact, it may very well have been… If you ever get a chance to watch it…you might like it…or you might hate it…but, you will understand what I mean… There is an important principle at the base of this movie… The character “V”, is a metaphor for ideas…You can not kill, or stop an idea…If you try, you will lose…and your attempts will be futile. Perhaps, that might have been what the original poster was hinting towards… I’ve been around long enough, to know that some BLs do post words, not meant as a literal…but, as a figurative…to illustrate a principle… Some just go over the top, to make a point. Secondly… …Haven’t we all had fantasies, of being in charge of the forces, who storm across the country, liberating the oppressed?… …or of being the “sole” survivor, after a nuclear bomb has wiped our culture clean from the earth…happening across that taboo someone we adore…and being free to lavish them with love, without consequence?…rewriting social norms?… …or of being elected president, and changing the laws?… …We just don’t usually think “out loud”, and tell others about it. I just think, there is this undying need, to change the world…and those most harshly mistreated, feel the greatest urgency for this. When given a chance, they say so. Thirdly, and finally… …I’m not sure where “child molester” falls into this equation…but, this term is very destructive, when cast about at others, within the CL groups… …I’d be careful, just where I evoked this wedge…it has consequences… Not only is it vague and liquid in its’ meaning, but it often tarnishes the character and name of others. For sure, things are messy…and there are at least a couple of people who call themselves “BL”, I’d rather never cross paths with… …but, you will never find me talking about them…negatively, or otherwise…because how I treat others, reflects directly back onto me. We do not need scapegoats, as some in the “gay and lesbian” movement, believed that they did… …We need to learn from that…and be better than that… In a world where “up” has become “down”, and “black” has become “white”…Where laws have been reduced to fascism…I have no moral issues, with defending and accepting some who bare the label, “child molester”. Taking a stance on issues is all good and well…but, this world is all to barren of compassion… We need to rediscover that lost art.
