As to the Trump Twitter fiasco…
…I think the most charitable thing to contemplate on behalf of Trump…is that he may be experiencing some sort of dementia, at his age…Potentially, he is not just callously lying, out of pure contempt…and pure self serving…
That is speculation, however…and given his past…well…this seems to be a normal pattern of behavior for him…so…
Of course, I have serious concerns over anyone at Twitter deciding…that people behind the scenes are allowed to follow a user around, and alter their tweets…or account settings [as has happened to myself]…
…This is not something that should be happening…especially not by unaccountable, faceless people with their own bias…
I can tell you from personal experience…whenever some hostile bozo alters your personal account [not Twitter wide policy changes, just someone targeting you], and starts imposing themselves on you in a manipulative manner…that is targeted harassment and bullying.
…and there is no getting around this.
Trump has himself to blame over this…but make no mistake…this is still a very messed up precedent, for Twitter to be establishing.
What Twitter is currently doing, could seriously come back around to bite the MAP community hard…and not just by appending biased, skewed or wrong information to the tweets of MAPs…but by getting the government legitimately involved in the debate over whether Twitter has the legal protections of merely being a communication platform…or whether it is an actual editor…
…They need to stop this B.S. of behaving like an editor…
If their status changes…and they are held liable as an editor…they assume legal responsibility for everything published on their website…and there is no way in hell, they can monitor this volume of content…It will kill the platform…and if Twitter were to survive, they’d have to dramatically change their own structure…You can rest assured, their likelihood of standing up for marginalized, demonized communities would become almost [if not literally] nonexistent.
If Twitter simply goes down…that’s another obvious problem for MAPs, as it’s one of the few major platforms which tolerates our open participation…We have a very long established history there…We don’t need to be losing communication platforms.
Anyway you look at this, it really is only a threat to unpopular people with unpopular opinions.
YouTube needs to stop doing this crap, also.
