“Are you ready to party? Well, “Angela is having a party, Jason and Freddy are too scared to come. But you’ll have a hell of a time”. Don’t worry. You are not being invited to the Halloween Party that Angela is hosting. I am just reminding you of the tagline of the 1988 cult horror classic ‘Night of the Demons’, written and produced by Joe Augustyn and directed by Kevin S. Tenney. By now, you must have obviously understood that the film is about a Halloween party, of course, organized by someone called Angela, in a spooky and infamous mortuary. And even if you didn’t go, ten other teenagers attended it. They performed a seance and released the demon, who possessed and killed them one after the other. The movie was produced on a meager budget of $1m within just a few weeks, and the studio was not confident enough to grant it a grand release, as the shows were limited to only a few selected theaters. However, the film was pretty successful, bagging about $3.1 m in the theatrical run to everyone’s surprise. Horror fans truly loved the movie, and it could have been more successful with a wider release. The first film’s success encouraged the production for two more sequels and a remake of the original in 2009. As for the role of Angela, Amelia Kinkade bagged the part as it demanded a great dancer. Angela’s best friend Suzanne was featured by Linnea Quigley, who initially had no interest in the role as she felt she was too old for the role, but finally, she accepted. The remaining cast included Hal Havins, Allison Barron, Judy Powell, Lance Fenton, and others. The movie was initially titled ‘Halloween Party’. However, due to repeated objections from Moustapha Akkad, who produced the film titled ‘Halloween’, director Tenney suggested the title ‘Night of the Demons’, to which everyone agreed. Let’s now take a look at their Halloween party.” I really liked the first one. |
