“Portrait of the 18th-century French writer and connoisseur of sex. Learn why the Marquis de Sade was imprisoned numerous times for his scandalous novels and plays that were filled with perversion, torture, and murder, in this documentary from Biography.”
I know this concept is hard for certain portions of the population to grasp…but this behavior featured in the video…drugging…beating…sexual violence…That is what actual sexual abuse looks like…
…So nice he finally straightened himself out, and settled down with a nice mistress AND a thirteen year old lover…for a quiet and comfortable “retirement”, in the walls of a social institution! 🙂

Thanks for this. I learned a lot from this documentary. He was a far more interesting character than the myths suggest.
On the other hand, I’m not crazy about the way the historians call things like sodomy depraved and merely having orgies shouldn’t be a big deal for those who want to partake. There was and still is a very judgemental aspect of society against those who like sex in all its forms.
If you go to a website like fetlife.com, you’ll see many women, and some men, proudly showing off whip marks and bruises from beatings that I would class as a felony, yet they are happy to submit to such things. I personally don’t get it. Still, that’s all fine and legal, yet you give someone too young pleasure and that’s rape no matter how willing the participant and equal to murder in the law. So bizarre.
Not saying De Sade wasn’t a scumbag. Drugging and any sexual stuff without consent is rape, but there seems to be almost as much outrage over his joy of sex and freedom to indulge as there is about his forcing others to.

You’re very welcome, GK. 🙂
These type of documentary are both interesting and useful, yes.
My understanding about people who like being beaten/whipped…is that the pain somehow heightens the sexual pleasure.
Personally, I’d rather just stick with the mutual sexual pleasure.
